Buddies, Bikes, Butterflies and Doggies in Lancaster

Monday we visited good friends, H and C up in Lancaster. They have a dog... so the girlies were made up, no children to play with, but an almighty tolerant dog. On arrival, J was very and I mean VERY hyper to see them all. So after a quick bite to eat, we headed to the local park... Williamson park.
If you have visited Lancaster, you will know its very hilly... perfect for J to learn to glide on her balance bike... but we had to walk several hills to reach the park.......but you could see the castle... so it wasn't too bad...
We soon made it to the park... and a little encouragement to get J to go downhill and attempt to glide worked....
...but ended up with a fall... the hill was pretty steep to be fair...but it doesn't look it in the photos...
...she happily got on again though to try again...

 ....and fell....
 ..again....
...but again happily got back on again, a quick lesson on the brake, and she was off...

....we soon made it to the to the building with the view point....
...and made it up the stairs... to be greeted with amazing views across Lancaster.... the girls were more interested in the telescope though...

...and S soon spotted the play park below...
...but before the play park, we went to explore the butterflies....
...and to try and name the ones we saw...
 ....as they flew past...

...S enjoyed seeing the many fish....

...and the butterflies.... she also wanted to try and pick one up...

...we were hoping to see one come out of the cocoon... but it took a while....

...and the girls soon moved on to the other areas...to see the various birds....
...and to see what they could find in the 'log piles'...
....but found the reptile house more interesting....
...then it was back outside to see the rabbits and guinne pigs... and for J to make H run around with her...
..the girls had a quick play in the play park, before going back to H's house to return the bike and pick up the dog.... it wasn't fair that we left the dog behind when we went to the park, but he wouldn't have been allowed into see the butterflies...so it was back to the park for the 2nd time... J loved trying to get the stick off him.... but when he wouldn't co-operate...she found her own 'magic wand' which the dog soon wanted....
So after two trips to the park, it was time to return back to H and C's house for dinner, and for the girls to relax....

.. J was still hyper though.... and wouldn't leave H alone...

...whereas S was tormenting the dog, by using his toy as a wig... he was very good... so was rewarded with a biscuit...
 ...which vanished very quickly...

....after a lovely dinner, it was soon time to return home, with two very, very tired girls.... Thank you H and C for a lovely day.

  6. I used to live in Lancaster. Loved it there, and its a great place for kids, I imagine (I was there before I had mine). Williamson Park is very steep and is much steeper than it looks in the pictures. I also loved visiting Heysham and going for train journeys along the salt marsh coast up into Cumbria. Lancaster town centre is lovely too - great market and fishmonger (hope it's still there!). Ahhh, your post took me right back. Must visit sometime!

  7. It looks like you had a great day. The dog did really well with both of your girls. J did really well on her balance bike, looks like she is really getting the hang of it.
