Love Marlenka Cake review and giveaway

Hands up if you like cake. Everyone I know loves cake, some like it sweet and sickly, others like it moist and subtle. I've never heard of anyone not liking cake so when Love Marlenka asked if I would like to review some, AND give some away to one of my lucky readers I just couldn't refuse.

Marlenka cakes, I will be honest and tell you I had never heard of them before so had to do a little bit of research to find out exactly what I was trying out. Marlenka cakes  are honey based and free from any artificial preservatives and colours and are the only cakes in the Czech Republic to be assigned NATURAL PRODUCT status. This sounded great and something I would like to try.

Love Marlenka sent us a few different cakes to try out:

We tried them out when Grandma and Grandad visited over a coffee, so we could get a real variety of opinions. We couldn't get a variety as we all liked them. We all commented on how soft and moist they were without it being overly sweet. The first we sampled was the mini honey cake.

It comes in a sealed foil bag inside the box with a plastic fold out spoon. Instead of for one person, we shared it around 6. The mini cake provided us with 4 reasonable size pieces with a 5th thinner slice which we then split again for the girls. I could not really get a honey taste when sampling, it tasted more like a golden syrup style taste but not over powering. I could have easily eaten it all myself it was that nice. It was thin slices of cake fitted together with the honey cream and milk mixture. Delicious. Hubby who dislikes cream even liked it as it does not taste like cream.

The next cake we sampled was the cocoa honey nuggets. These come as a box of 10 and well packaged protected by plastic to stop squashing in transit and then in mini cake cases to serve.

Inside the soft moist cake was the honey cream and milk filling again, which tasted not like traditional honey. They didn't taste massively of chocolate either, again a nice subtle taste, sweet but not to sweet.

Later that day we decided to cut the snack bars up into 5 pieces so we could all try these too. These are individually wrapped and ideal for picnics, or on the go when you need a pick me up.

They come in three flavours. The classic honey cake, the cocoa honey cake or the lemon honey cake. All look similar covered in chocolate, and with the filling between two pieces of cake to make a cake bar. They are reasonably sized too, here is a picture of J enjoying a piece of one (which had been sliced into 5) so you can gage the size.

The lemon cake was again a subtle taste. You can smell it and taste it, and it is very refreshing. A perfect taste for summer with it being overpowering or bitter. The honey cake has the same taste which to me is similar to golden syrup, and the cocoa bar was a slight chocolate taste.

They went down extremely well in the three generations whilst enjoying a coffee and catch up. We enjoyed them so much that we would like to share the experience with one of my lucky followers so if you would like to win the same hamper of cakes from Love Marlenka that we received, please fill in the entries below. Good luck.
