This summer we were invited to Beefeater to try out their summer children's menu. We headed to Heald Green branch so we could watch the aeroplanes fly over as we ate. The children's menu comes with a FREE Mr men or Little Miss toy with every two or three courses purchased, with a different one each week. This is only during the school holidays, so it is nearing the end now. However the menu has also been refreshed, and I must say it is very child friendly.
The children also get a Mr men and Little Miss themed activity book with dot to dot and spot the difference to keep them occupied whilst waiting for their meal.
The children's menu is very colourful and carries across the Mr men theme. It is well laid out and the pricing structure is clear. With the meals they get free squash too. If you want a branded drink i.e., calypso or a fruit shoot they cost extra. I like the menu as it is in picture format so the children can see what it is they are ordering.
You can also switch the sides to another side too. J took advantage of this and changed both sides that came with her dish making it super flexible for fussy eaters.
For starters J chose garlic bread and S chose vegetable sticks and dip. The vegetable sticks were fresh and crunchy, the garlic bread moist. Both went down very well.
Daddy went for the spicy chicken wings and I chose garlic king prawns. The wings were spicy and came with some celery and a cool cheese dip. My prawns were tasty and the ciabatta that came with it mopped up the juices well. Both were served on boards and looked amazing.
For mains S chose macaroni cheese which comes with vegetable sticks and garlic bread. She had vegetable sticks for starters so we changed the side to a mini corn on the cob, after all she is sweet corn obsessed. Again she dived into the meal before I could take photos. The pasta was very cheesey with added cheese on top too. J wanted the angus double burger. She switched the side order of chips to mash potato and added beans. I like that the ketchup was on the side to add to the burger, as not all children like ketchup. The burger had no salad inside it was just burgers and bap.
I opted for the BBQ chicken melt. It is something we don't have at home so wanted to try it out. It came with a fruity coleslaw, delicious chips, and a salad with a dressing. I ate it all, I am not sure what the dressing on the salad was, but it tasted amazing. Daddy M chose the porter house steak. A porter house steak is HUGE, he last had one when we were in America and it almost defeated him. Where I had not been home for almost 2 weeks I think he was a tad hungry. The steak again came with a salad and the delicious chips. The steak was juicy and cooked to his request perfectly. The steak was 18oz, but unfortunately on this occasion had a lot of fat. On bringing it to the waiters attention Daddy was to get a new fresh steak but we needed to wait whilst it cooked again. The second steak was better then the first but still had a lot of fat, however we did not complain about the second one. It was still succulent and juicy.
Whilst Daddy ate his second steak the girls tucked into their puddings. S opted for the funny face sundae which came with sweets to make it into a face, and J chose the chocolate challenge sundae. This came with chocolate brownie pieces, marshmallows and a chocolate sauce. Both thoroughly enjoyed it although they did go very hyper afterwards. Too much sugar maybe for over tired girls?
Daddy and myself decided against puddings on this occasion as Daddy had to shoot of for work shortly after. On requesting the bill the head waiter decided to take the Porter house steak off the bill as they again was not happy with the amount of fat on the steak. They also informed us that they have removed that batch from their menu until a new batch comes in. Wow, great service.
We enjoyed our meal, the service was quick and friendly, the conservatory where we sat was light and airy, and we could watch the planes fly over head. The girls were occupied with their activity packs and toy. We will be retuning again.
At breakfast Beefeater also offers up to two children to eat for free when an adult orders a full breakfast. This is a great way to start the day before a big day out.
Have you ever eaten at a Beefeater? What do you think of the new children's menu and the chance to get a Mr or Little miss toy?
